How To Turn Your Damaged Driveway Into A Decorative Focal Point

When your driveway has cracks or holes, you can always replace it. However, your other option is to repair it using different techniques. One of these techniques will allow you to repair your driveway and turn it into a decorative focal point for your home.

Integrate New and Old Materials

When portions of your driveway are discolored or broken, you can use these areas as a template for your new design. For example, the damaged areas can be the starting point for your new design concept.

To start the design process, you need to map out the existing damage. Once you see how much space is available, you can then try to fit shapes or patterns into these areas.

The idea is to create your own pattern without having to replace your home's entire driveway. This option allows you to integrate the older surface of your current driveway with a new material that completes the overall look you are trying to achieve.

Remove Damaged Sections

Once you have a design in mind, you need to remove the damaged areas. Since this type of work is difficult and requires heavy machinery to complete, you should hire a driveway paving company to remove the damaged portions for you.

The paving company will use a large saw to cut away the damaged portions. Many pavers have the ability to cut out the damaged areas and make a precise shape at the same time. For example, you can have them cut squares, diamonds, triangles and even circles out of the surface of your driveway, so you can have the exact design or pattern you prefer.

After the pieces are removed, the paver will then use hand tools to scrap or brush away any loose debris that did not come out with the larger pieces. Once the debris is gone, you can start the final phase of your driveway makeover.

Place New Materials

The last step is to place the new materials into the holes the paving company cut out of your driveway. Depending on the look you want, you will have several material choices that will work for your driveway's new design.

The easiest option is to choose a colored concrete or asphalt. With this option, the paving company adds a color to the material of your choice and then the workers fill in the newly created holes. If you prefer a different look, you can use decorative pavers that come in different shapes, colors and sizes.

When looking through all of your options, you want to think about how the new materials will work with your existing driveway. Even though this process does take some additional time to complete, it is well worth the effort. Using this option allows you to change the look of your driveway and repair it all at the same time.
